80 Day race
Starting in April 2016, teams will race between 8 of the most exciting locations around the world without using a single drop of fossil fuel. The competing teams will choose their own routes and means of transport between 8 stopovers. All land-, water- and air vehicles are allowed as long as it runs on renewable resources and has no combustion engine.
Context
Jules Verne, the French Novelist, was fascinated by technology and transportation. In 1873, he was convinced of the possibility to travel around the world in 80 days. In modern times, technology allows us to travel much faster. However, never has anyone reproduced Verne’s journey using only renewable resources. Doing so proves that future mobility can rely on renewable resources only. Welcome to the world of the 80 Day Race.
Route
The 40.000-kilometre journey will lead the teams in eight legs through four continents to eight major cities of the modern world. By hosting a great media spectacle during each start and finish weekend, the 80 Day Race envisions to leave a permanent mark on every location. Populations will learn how sustainable mobility is ready to play a vital role here and now.
